It is actually super simple to clean your engagement ring, wedding band, or other jewelry at home. You just need a few household items to get your jewelry sparkling like new again!

What you'll need...

1. Dish soap

Any dish soap will do. Dish soap cuts grease and won't be too harsh on your jewelry. It will remove all the build-up like creams, lotions, oils, etc.

2. Toothbrush

It can be new or old, but if you plan on cleaning your jewelry often, it's probably a good idea to keep a toothbrush on reserve specifically for this purpose.

3. Soft cloth

To dry your jewelry, you will need a soft lint-free cloth or blow dryer.

Now that you've got everything you need, it's time to start cleaning!

Step 1

Soak your jewelry in lukewarm water for around 10 minutes. You can add soap if desired. This will loosen up all the build-up from around the jewelry.

Step 2

Take some dish soap and start scrubbing your jewelry with your toothbrush. Make sure to get in all the crevices and scrub in circular motions. You can scrub for as long as needed, generally around 1-2 minutes.

Rinse, then scrub again with clean water to remove any excess soap that may have clung to the metal or stones. Then, rinse one last time et voila!

Make sure to have your strainer in your sink before you rinse!!! We do not want any mishaps of jewelry falling down drains!

How often should you clean your gold jewelry?

If you're cleaning your jewelry the right way without using harsh chemicals, we recommend cleaning it once every 3 months, however it depends on the wearer and their daily activities. It also depends on the stone. Stones such as morganite, diamonds, topaz's etc., tend to cling to grease and oils much easier than other stones, so they would need to be cleaned more frequently, for example. As you just read, it doesn't take very long and can be done at home even if you've got a busy schedule.

Can you clean your engagement ring too much?

No, you can't clean your engagement ring too much if you are doing it the right way without using harsh and abrasive chemicals. That is what will damage your gold and your stones and wear them down over time.

Should you take your engagement ring off to wash your hands?

No, you don't need to take off your engagement ring when washing your hands or in the shower, but over time the soap and scum could build up. You will need to follow the steps above to clean your ring as needed. We also don't recommend this because it increases the chance of falling down the sink or forgetting it in a public restroom.

Should I get my engagement ring professionally cleaned?

Yes. We recommend bringing us your jewelry every 5-7 years to have it professionally cleaned and looked at.

We offer an aftercare package where we will clean your jewelry by ultrasound, giving a deep clean, not attainable by at home cleaning. We will verify all prongs are intact and repair them if necessary. We will high polish your rings, removing all superficial scratches. We will also rhodium plate your white gold!
